Stephen Williams Book and Archives Conservator
Steve trained in book and archives conservation in the UK. He is a registered member of the UK Society of Archivists and an Accredited Conservator-Restorer, British National Council for Conservation-Restoration. Steve is also a full member of the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materilas group. He is now the Book and Archives Conservator at Triptych.

Steve has spent his 32 years of working life in conservation. In the UK he was employed at various county record offices and later in private practice in the Channel Islands for eight years. Since moving to New Zealand in 2002, Steve has worked at the National Library of New Zealand, Archives New Zealand and the Auckland Central Library. He started working at Triptych in 2004. 
 

At Triptych Steve’s focus is with hands-on treatment work and training. His breadth of conservation knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated when planning conservation treatments and projects. He has also had direct disaster respsonse and salvage experience. Such experience includes conservation work on material damaged in the 1966 Florence floods as well as salvage of material from the 1994 Norwich Library fire, the 2002 Auckland Central Library disaster and the February 2004 floods in the lower North Island, New Zealand. Joy Culy - Director Triptych
Joy has spent 25 years working in museums and libraries. She worked at the National Museum throughout the 1980s and again as the new museum, Te Papa, opened. Joy gained experience and expertise in many facets of exhibition preparation such as: installation; design; object support and other conservation issues; planning; and promotion. She was involved with a wide range of exhibitions developed by the Museum for temporary and permanent display as well as with international touring exhibitions. 

Joy also worked as a Conservation Technician with the National Library of New Zealand from 1995 to 2002 where she was involved with many conservation and preservation projects including: treatment work; archival enclosure design and production; and mounting and preparation of books and other collection items for exhibition. As well, she was responsible for operation of the freeze-drying facility.

 

In 2001 Joy had the opportunity to bring her knowledge and experience to the Triptych team. Since then she has been co-facilitator of the training Triptych provides to the Heritage sector where her considerable practical knowledge and experience underpin her natural and relaxed manner of facilitation. Joy also takes a special interest in the design of Triptych’s products, the design of custom-made archival protective enclosures and the design of special supports and mounts.
